5 Tips on Planning your Family Photos List!

As a wedding photographer, one of the biggest challenges I face is getting all of the family members together for group photos. It's important to capture these special moments, but it can be difficult to gather everyone in one place at the same time. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help make this process go as smoothly as possible. Here are some tips to help you plan for an organized family photo during your wedding day timeline.

1. Create a family photo list

The first step is to create a list of all the family members you want to include in the group photos. This list should be organized by family and include the names of each person. This will help ensure that no one is left out and that everyone knows where they need to be when it's time for the photos. You can also make the list in order of capture. For instance, start with all the groupings of the Bride’s family first, then any groupings of both Bride and Groom families, then end with the groupings of the Groom’s family.

2. Communicate with your family

Once you have your family photo list, it's important to communicate with your family members and let them know when and where the photos will be taken. This can be done in advance through email or group text, or you can have someone designated to provide this information to each family member on the day of the wedding.

3. Allocate enough time

Make sure to allocate enough time in your wedding day timeline for family photos. This will depend on how many family members you have and how many group photos you want to take. As a rule of thumb, plan for 3-5 minutes per group photo. It's better to have too much time allocated than not enough.

4. Choose the right location

Choose a location that is easy to access right after the ceremony and has enough space for all the family members to stand comfortably. It's also important to choose a location that has good lighting and a nice background. If you are unsure of the best lighting, discuss your options with your photographer beforehand, and together brainstorm the perfect spot.

5. Assign a family liaison

Assign someone to be the family liaison on the day of the wedding. This person can help gather family members and make sure everyone is in the right place at the right time. This will help ensure the family photo process goes as smoothly as possible.

By following these tips, your family photos will be organized and stress-free. Remember that family photos are an important part of your wedding day and will be cherished for years to come. So, take the time to plan ahead now and ensure everything runs smoothly!
